After some time off over Christmas and New Year’s, the ‘Eyeballs made Easy’ (EME) team is back on task.  Our team has grown, with the addition of three clinical lecturers – Dr Ravinder Phagura, Dr Irene Tan and Dr Erandi Chandrasekera – employed through the Centre for Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (UWA).  Our clinical lecturers will be involved in the delivery of much of the face-to-face eye teaching for both UWA and University of Notre Dame medical students.  They will also be involved in developing aspects of the EME project, including online videos and evaluation.

Prior to the Christmas break, we spent some time re-designing the UWA eye curriculum, in an attempt to make it more integrated, student-centred and up to date.  This was submitted to and approved by the IMP2 unit committee in mid-December. Last week, we met with Michael Ovens from the Futures Observatory, to discuss the exciting possibility of using Virtual Reality technology as a part of EME.  We also set up the ‘Red Eye Room’, a new online forum on Blackboard, where questions and answers on eye problems can be posted by UWA medical students, with support and moderation by our team.

More to come in next week’s blog post! Until then, signing off…
