A Few weeks ago, the EME team (Hess and Sanjay) were fortunate enough to attend a Carpe Diem Workshop at the Centre for Education Futures (CEF) at UWA.  With the help of Sev Lee, Chloe Czerwiec, Melissa Cianfrini and Astrid Divine from CEF, and with valuable input from Dr Jonathan Lam and Dr Tiki Ewing, the EME program started to take shape. We began by brainstorming what EME is, and what it hopes to achieve (as well as drawing a cool icon for EME!). We then spent the rest of the workshop designing a ‘scaffold’ for EME, which included a timeline, structure and action plan for creating and embedding EME in the existing student Learning Management System.

Some exciting and unexpected ideas that emerged from the workshop included a ‘Red Eye Discussion Forum’, for students to pose questions and feedback for EME, a new ‘Eyeball Case Catalogue’ where students could upload case reports of interesting eye patients, and the potential to use Virtual Reality technology to teach eye anatomy and pathology to students (and even the wider general public).

So plenty of work to do, and a long way to go!… but off to an exciting start for EME.
