Our team has been busy over the past few weeks in designing the revised unit for this research project. We attended the Carpe Diem workshop which has provided us with invaluable advice and assistance in revising the broadening unit Consumers Around the World. Through the workshop, we have managed to incorporate new elements such blog posts and personal learning journals to this unit. The most exciting part of the assessment requirements for this unit is the provision of choice. This means that students will have the opportunity to select their fourth assessment: either weekly quizzes or weekly personal learning journals. This element is a crucial part of our research in measuring the impact of choice on the students’ levels of motivation and engagement.

Last week, we had the opportunity to present our research ideas at the Teaching and Learning Forum. We had a lot of interest in our ideas, especially how personal values might impact the susceptibility to different types of motivational interferences in our students. We also attended numerous presentations and workshops at the Forum and gained a good understanding of the key issues and new developments in the area of teaching and learning in higher education.
